A Study of High School Students Needs in the Health Education

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify health education needs and to plan health education curriculum in high school.
The data was collected from may 15 to may 20, 1995, using questionnaires. It concerned the health education needs of 816 high school students in Seoul and Chongju, Korea.
The results of this study were as follows :
1. The perceived educational need was high in the areas of "Environmental health", "Chronic disease" and "Infectious disease". And it was low in "Geriatric health", "Consumer health" and "Nutrition and health".
2. The perceived need was higher in Chongju than in Seoul.
3. There were no significant differences by grade. The highest need was among 2nd grade students in the area of "Mental health".
4. Female students reported a higher need than male students in every area except "Sex education".
5. Students were asked to cite their educational needs. 37 of the responses were categorized as sex-related and 26 as related to physical health.
